Referee Abuse Prevention Policy

Effective March 2025

Referees are essential to the game we love and this policy aims to protect their emotional and physical well-being. With referee abuse on the rise in youth and amateur soccer, it’s time to stand together and ensure a safe, respectful environment for everyone involved.

Key Highlights of the Policy

  • Non-Physical Abuse
    • Level 1: Verbal taunting (Minimum 2-game suspension)
    • Level 2: Harassment/Intimidation (Minimum 4-game suspension)
    • Level 3: Threats or derogatory language (6-game to 24-month suspension)
    • Level 4: Offensive or discriminatory acts (10-game to 24-month suspension)
  • Physical Abuse
    • Level 1: Minor or slight touching (Minimum 3-game suspension or 1-6 months)
    • Level 2: Intentional confrontation (Minimum 10-game suspension or 6-24 months)
    • Level 3: Violent contact (12-month suspension to lifetime ban)
